Guided by the vision of Larry “Pat” McFadden, McFadden Nature Center is more than just a piece of land; it’s a sanctuary where nature, people, and purpose thrive together.

Set across 1,240 acres, this land has been transformed by volunteers and visionaries since 1999 into a thriving, sustainable environment rich with native plants and wildlife.

Here, we hope people of all ages come to know and cherish the land, water, and air that sustain us. Through immersive, hands-on experiences, we aim to inspire curiosity, foster peace, and build an enduring commitment to conservation.

The Concept

Imagine a Nature Center where the African savannas meet Georgia’s lush wilderness, creating an immersive celebration of biodiversity and the importance of water in sustaining life. Visitors explore exhibits showcasing Southwest Georgia’s native flora, fauna, and waterways while learning about conservation and preservation.

Inside, a dynamic museum with interactive displays brings these ecosystems to life, while a natural-materials event space fosters community connection. This visionary space bridges continents and ecosystems, inspiring wonder and environmental stewardship. It’s a place where beauty, education, and responsibility for our environment come together.

The Design

Designing a Nature Center with a museum, event space, nature trails, tepees, an RV resort, and views of the Chattahoochee River is a thoughtful and collaborative effort. Each element is carefully planned to honor the site’s natural beauty, from accessible trails that blend into the landscape to accommodations that offer immersive views while preserving the environment.

The museum’s educational exhibits complement the versatile event space, creating a seamless connection to the surrounding wilderness. Every feature celebrates the ecological and cultural heritage of the Chattahoochee, providing enriching experiences that inspire a love for nature and environmental stewardship.
